I’ve been a hiring manager at a creative studio and honestly, almost every single one of these would have gone straight to the trash. I’m not saying don’t be creative, but keep the end goal in mind: Communicating your skills and experience.

Be creative in your portfolio. Not your page layout.

I wouldn't even bother with half of these if they were handed to me. Subtlety is the key, legibility is the key, and communication is the key.. Not show off how creative I can be by throwing a million badly laid out elements onto my CV.

This post is completely ridiculous! Just about every single “don’t” in CV presentation appears in these examples. As a matter of fact, anyone who reads this post should actually steer clear in the opposite direction!

It is imperative that a CV be clean and professional – no matter what your profession. As the director of a creative studio, I would never think of hiring any designer who presented a CV so awful and illegible as some of these.

Ok I get your point but I get sent CV's that are the most bland word doc's. They show no
layout skill or creativity what so ever. Typography and colour in itself should be a enough to show creatvity whilst maintaing the end goal – factual presentation of information.

to be honest, employers have their own preferences when choosing which resumes or cv’s to read. if these designs work, well and good, if not, then choose another approach. get to know about the culture your prospective employer has and adapt your resume to what kind of resume he/she might prefer.

please don’t generalize and negatively criticize what creative people would like to share with others. i don’t know if it’s just my observation but people who criticize and ridicule others think that they’re being cool… but that behavior is definitely not cool. that’s bullying.

the designs on this post are creative enough to merit praise. good job on posting these!

I am a CPRW (Certified Profesisonal Resume Writer) and I think these resumes are fabulous! Here is what I wrote to the PARW/CC community about these resumes:
    ——————————————-
I absolutely love it! If someone is using a resume in a non-traditional method (today non-traditional would include snail mail or handing the resume to someone in person) this is a fabulous way to present a resume if it matches the individual's skills and objectives.

This type of creativity is appropriate for a graphic designer, high school student seeking a summer job, an athlete, or web master… not for an attorney or the CEO. Also, the graphics can't be scanned – as many large corporations scan resumes.

The designer should be careful to not compromise the text integrity in the resume though. I read on one resume for a Graphic Designer "Objective: My objective is to obtain an entry level position where I can gain more experience to improve my skills and knowledge." Yuck. This doesn't fly at all. To combine the artistic talent of graphic designers and the wordsmithing of a CPRW is genius.

Creative for sure, but what employer is going to dig through the clutter on pretty much all of these for the information they want? Gotta find a balance between creative and legible.

Some great ideas but style over substance seems a little too common here -so many typos/bad grammar/poor wording!

You might be right but we have many good examples as well
