Apple has reportedly revamped its apps approval policy in a bid to make Apple marketplace safer and more productive. In light of these new changes, we’ve taken a look at the most outrageous App Store rejects from years past. Whether too sexy, too profane, too offensive, or too partisan, these apps just couldn’t make the cut.

The goal is to control the tilt of the phone and bouncing pol to pop balloons floating on the top of the Oval Office with their heads. (The app even includes a pantsless Bill Clinton caricature.) Apple plays it safe when it comes to ‘defemation’ and the App Store didn’t want to take chances.

Slasher

This app allowed the user to play the role of the Iraqi shoe-tossing journalist and hurl footwear at former President George W. Bush. The app was rejected for defaming a public figure. The app was retooled however, and accepted by Apple. Now, the user can toss a shoe at anyone they like by uploading a photo of that person—whether it’s a former spouse or the former President.

This Tetris-like game was pulled from the app store for being, well, Tetris-like. The game was stripped from iTunes in September 2008 after Tetris complained that the resemblance was too close.

New year is just around the corner, and major tech companies have promised us some innovative new products to arrive in coming months. Of course, we’ll see the really new stuff at the Consumer Electronics Show in January (along with a lot of concepts and vaporware), but the 2011-ready products have been in the making for a long time. A Sony PSP phone, a white iPhone, Windows and Android tablets, and a 3D VAIO laptop are just a few of the things we’re looking forward to. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10-inch

Hidden 3D

iOS 5, the latest OS for Apple trinkets, has hidden depths in the form of support for 3D objects embedded in web pages though the use of WebGL, and not just for paying customers. At first it seemed that WebGL would only be available for advertisements using Apple’s iAd framework, but Aussie developer Nathan de Vries has worked out how to get a 3D render out of the iAd frame and into web component of any application, though notes he had to use a few private APIs to get there and outside of ad frames, with the help of some third-party APIs. What this means in plainer English is that developers could theoretically add 3D objects to new iOS apps, although Apple probably wouldn’t approve them for the App Store. Nonetheless, it all indicates that Apple could have broader plans for iOS and 3D in the future.

Send tweets with Sir

If you lured by the Genie of Aladdin, who grant him his wishes, then just gaze at  your iPhone 4S, its Siri will take you to a magical ride and will work almost like a genie for you. The much glorified Siri, voice command assistant which has generated huge discussion after the arrival of iPhone 4S, is without a doubt enabled with many exclusive qualities. This one is more an involved work-around than a hidden feature, but it provides a way to Tweet directly from Siri—a function many iPhone 4S users have been surprised to find wasn’t baked in to iOS 5. The idea is basically to use Siri to text your tweet to Twitter. There are detailed instructions on the Buffer blog.

Panoramic Camera Mode

Did you want in on iOS 5′s hidden panorama feature, but weren’t down with the whole jailbreak shindig? You’re in luck, because RedmondPie found a roundabout solution. The process involves using a backup program, iBackupBot, to edit and add a line or two of code in a system file. All interested parties need is an iTunes backup, a little elbow grease and a program called iBackupBot. That last item will allow you to bust open your device backup, where you’ll find a preference file that needs an “EnableFirebreak” value changed from “false” to “true.” Once that’s done, a quick restore is all that stands between you and some epic panoramic vistas. Note:  Some iOS devices may crash when trying to use the newly-activated mode, but there’s plenty of reports of iOS users taking extremely wide photos

Resurrecting iPad Multitouch

Some original iPad users were dismayed to find that when they upgraded to iOS 5, multi-touch gesturing capability had mysteriously disappeared. The gestures originally had to be enabled after the fact with some free developer software. iOS 5 introduced the feature officially to the iPad2, while simultaneously locking it out of the original iPad. Fortunately for users that got used to the gestures, a coder at modmyi.com came up with a fix to restore the capability without having to jailbreak the device.

Auto-suggestion keyboard Bar

Apple has apparently hidden a suggested autocorrect bar for the on-screen keyboard which looks an awful lot like something you might see on an Android device. It lists possible corrections for misspellings just above the keyboard. To bring it out into the light, you’ll need to use iBackupBot again to make some changes to code, according to 9to5Mac.

The last update saw the Samsung Galaxy S2 Grabbed crown and named king of Smart phones – the combo of Android 2.3 and a beautiful screen in a tightly packaged body saw it head straight to the top of the pile. But now Apple has finally brought out another version of the iPhone (if you want a sneaky peek, you can read our iPhone 4S review) so check out our list see if it’ll have what it takes to finally get an iPhone on top spot and help you choose a phone to buy.

1. Samsung Galaxy S2

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has taken the mobile phone world by storm since it’s release in May. In fact before it even went on sale the handset had received over 3 million pre-orders. It is the most powerful smartphone available on the market today with a staggering 1.2ghz dual core CPU. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a phone we’re excited to whip out in a pub and show off to our friends – and millions of people already are. It’s the ultimate media mobile, the next generation in web browsing thanks to slick Flash integration, a very good replacement for a pocket camcorder and, goshdarnit, it makes calls pretty well too.

2. iPhone 4S

The iPhone 4S comes with a dual-core processor, a better camera, a smarter virtual assistant and twice the storage of its predecessor — if you don’t mind paying for it. Like the iPhone 3GS did before to the 3G, the 4S bumps the iPhone 4 down to second-class status, leaving those Apple fans who must have the best aspiring to own its decidedly familiar exterior. Apple says this is the most amazing iPhone ever. Is it? Yes, of course it is, but read on to see whether it’s really worth an upgrade.

It’s one of the most expensive phones on the market, so have a think whether you really want the latest features, as the iPhone 4 and 3GS are cheaper alternatives… but make no mistake, this is another cracking smartphone from Apple, and while many will be undoubtedly upset it’s not number one, if you’re an Apple fan then this is your number one phone.

3. HTC Sensation

HTC has gone from being an unknown manufacturer for bigger brands to one spewing out leading Android smartphones. HTC has recognised that in bringing out a phone that ticks all the boxes for the most sought-after tech, bringing an 8MP camera, 1080p video recording, a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm chipset and a qHD resolution 4.3-inch screen.

The HTC Sensation is a cracking piece of kit despite being behind the S2 (and now the iPhone 4S), with Sense 3.0 being a real joy to use. The HTC Desire was the phone that showed the world what HTC could do, and the Sensation is a big step change once more. The dual-core power really shows, and the HTC Watch service is one to, well, watch as bringing movie downloads to a phone on the go could be the next big thing.

4. Sony Ericsson Arc S

The things we’re impressed with on the Xperia Arc S are almost too many to list. From the beautiful Reality Display with Bravia Engine to the powerful-yet-simple 8.1MP camera with Exmor R technology, this is one of the phones that people actually want to hold and play with when you show it off – plus it now boasts a 3D panorama mode, although you have to hook it up to a compatible big screen TV to view.

5. HTC Desire S

The Desire S has surprised us all with its popularity – decent price drops already have seen it become a valuable proposition and place it as a good HTC alternative to the dual-core power of the HTC Sensation. Excellent call quality, a decent camera, strong build and clever-as-ever social networking integration make this a class-leader once more, despite it no longer being the HTC top dog since the Sensation has landed. The HTC Desire S is a slick, compact and attractive handset that is a decent improvement on its predecessor with more compact lines and an improved Sense experience.

6. Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray

It’s been a busy old year for Sony Ericsson. As it struggles to regain a foothold in the market it was once sucha major player in, it’s been firing out more Android-based Xperia smartphones than long-lost Friends, with the likes of Xperia Arc and Xperia Mini proving big hits. But there’s another winner from the soon-to-be-just-Sony brand, with the Xperia Ray winning more than a few admirign glances. Well-packaged and packing in a host of top-end Sony tech, the Xperia Ray is a smaller smartphone that squeezes a large amount of power into a pocketable package.

7. BlackBerry Bold 9900

Research in Motion (RIM) have been getting some pretty heavy criticism recently and it is now time for another flagship device, the Bold 9900. Keeping tradition alive by bringing out the industry’s best messaging devices. The Bold 9900 is the best BlackBerry ever created, with a solid chassis, easy to use keys, a superbly hi-res screen and touch capabilities too. BB OS 7 might not be much of an upgrade, but it still just works on a phone with a QWERTY keyboard / smaller screen combo. If you’re a BlackBerry fan, this is the phone for you without doubt. Well, that is if you can afford the oddly high price tag – it’s only this that’s stopping us ranking the Bold 9900 higher in our definitive guide.

8. HTC Incredible S

The 8MP camera with dual LED flash is a decent option, the interface snaps along nicely and the price is palatable – with another top example of HTC Sense that’s been improved with the launch of Android 2.3, and hopefully will get the same update to Ice Cream Sandwich. While sales haven’t really been stellar for the Incredible S, it’s still a real favourite among users. We suggest you nab one soon, as they may not be around for much longer given the popularity of the HTC Sensation and new Beats Audio range.

9. Orange Monte Carlo

Orange UK will release the Orange Monte Carlo, which is actually a Re-branded of ZTE Skate. Powered by the Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, the phone features a 4.3-inch WVGA display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5MP autofocus camera, a 512MB of RAM, and an 800MHz processor. That screen isn’t the best on the market though, especially in bright sunlight, and the camera has been downgraded a little to lower the cost too. However, for the price we’re more than happy to forgive this, and the Monte Carlo still delivers a decent large-screen viewing experience, if you are indoors.

10. LG Optimus 3D

LG calls the phone’s (Optimus series) “tri-dual” technology – a dual-core processor, dual cameras and dual-channel memory .LG Optimus 3D features An extraordinary 4.3 inch display which provides glasses-free 3D graphics and also dual 5 mp cameras pertaining to recording stereoscopic 3D photos as well as movies. The particular 3D button to the side of this mobile opens up this 3D heart for taking part in 3D games as well as enjoying 3D movies, you can also record your own personal 3D videos and upload all of them instantly to YouTube.

11. iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 was the most impressive iPhone ever when launched, and a big step up from the iPhone 3GS. The new Curve takes things to another level though, with the new handset offering a superbly sleek chassis, a well-designed keyboard and next-generation functionality thanks to the inclusion of NFC to connect up to other BlackBerry devices, as well as letting you pay for goods on the go.

13. Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini / Mini Pro

Sony Ericsson managed something of an underground hit with the original Xperia X10 Mini range, and has predictably brought the line-up back with a powerful refresh. The new line-up (the Mini Pro features a keyboard, but is otherwise pretty much identical to the Mini) has a 1GHz processor under the hood and a much bigger 3-inch screen compared to last year’s model, which makes a big difference.

One of the major criticisms of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro when it was originally released was that the 1.6 version of Android which the phone used was somewhat outdated severely limiting the number of the apps that the user could use, but now it’s been updated to use Android 2.1.

14. Google Nexus S

The Google Nexus S is the successor to the Google Nexus One and is Google’s “reference” phone for Android handsets that will be released in 2011. Intended for developers and more hardcore phone enthusiasts, the Nexus S comes stock with Android 2.3 (codename: Gingerbread) which is free from all the extraneous apps that manufacturers and carriers add. if you’re after Ice Cream Sandwich on a budget with no frills, then this will be the way to do it. the NFC chip means you can do some cool stuff in the future too, like using Android Beam to send links or YouTube videos to friends by bumping phones.

15. Motorola Atrix

Smartphone with James Bond-style fingerprint recognition amazing isnay. Announcement of Dual core phone by Motorola named Atrix blow my mind, Mobile with  Dual core Tegra 2 1GHz processors, 1930mAh battery and qHD screen meant the Atrix was far and away the most powerful phone around. It garnered a decent review from us thanks to the snappy processor speeds.

Fighting games aren’t really known for having much of a plot. Nine times out of 10, some heavily inebriated deities have invited a group of superheroic misfits to murder each other in a tournament format, so on and on..Coming back to my topic Top 10 Real Steel gaming robot characters. Todayt I thought it’d be fun to get ultra specific this time around and do a list of my all time favorite robot game characters. The rules were simple but made me whittle down my list quickly. While there have been numerous robot characters, many of them were not autonomous, were just supporting characters or were just not cool enough for my list.

Here, we have picked out what we consider to be the best ten games featuring robots. As usual, we have focused on free online games where possible. So there are no excuses not to play them!

Game: Deus Ex series

1. Robots: JC Denton/Alex D/Adam Jensen

While not actually robots, JC Denton, Alex D and Adam Jensen are, in the words of Star Wars, ‘more machine than man’. Their bioaugmented bodies make for good examples of the interesting – and plausible – ways robotics and biology may eventually be combined

Game: Sonic series

2. Robot: Metal Sonic

First appearing in Sonic The Hedgehog CD, this successor to Mecha Sonic from Sonic 2 was created by Robotnik to mimic Sonic’s abilities. He’s a recurring antagonist, faster than the hedgehog himself, and even occasionally appears as a playable character. His next appearance is in the forthcoming Sonic Generations

Game: God Hand 2

3. Robot: Dr. Ion

Dr Ion is a robotic Frankenstein’s monster-esque boss from Clover Studio’s God Hand. He’s first encountered being powered up, and his only dialogue is spoken by a crow which sits on his shoulder. After a lengthy fight, he’s vanquished by Gene. “So much for old Sparky!”

Game: Fallout 3

4. Robot: Liberty Prime

Originally created to aid the US Army, Liberty Prime was repurposed by the Brotherhood of Steel and repaired. Part of the force that retook Project Purity from the Enclave, Liberty Prime stormed through the streets, accompanied by the Brotherood and the player character.

Game: Star Fox 64

5. Robot: ROB 64

ROB 64 pilots the Great Fox, headquarters of the Star Fox team. He also provides support for Fox, Peppy, Falco and Slippy, in the form of hints and weapon drops. ROB 64 is based on the R.O.B. NES add-on, a short-lived robot peripheral.

Game: Syberia series

6. Robot: Oscar aka Oskar

Oscar is the no-nonsense automaton conductor of the clockwork train which takes Kate Walker on her cross-country journey. Initially quite abrupt, Oscar and Kate eventually form a bond. In Syberia II, Oscar makes the ultimate sacrifice for his creator, Hans.

Game: Portal series

7. Robot: GLaDOS

GLaDOS, the murderous curator of Aperture Science, acts as Chell’s foil in both Portal and Portal 2. Voiced by Ellen McLain, her witty dialogue and iconic songs have become a large part of widespread gaming culture.

Game: Ratchet & Clank series

8. Robot: Clank

Titular sidekick Clank has appeared beside Ratchet in numerous games, and even featured in his own spinoff titles. This grounded little robot provides a down to earth counterpart to his headstrong Lombax partner.

Game: Half-Life 2

9. Robot: Dog

Created by Eli Vance to be Alyx’s protector, Dog started life at a metre tall. Alyx gradually modified her companion and by the events of Half Life 2 he towers over his human counterparts. Always happy to help out, Dog has a playful nature and isn’t adverse to challenging Gordon to a game or two.

Still after the Launch of Apple iPhone 4S rumors are not stopped about iPhone 5. Apple is still thinking how they can make new iPhone more useful and attractive to consumers, 3D Maps application is suggestion so  Apple has reportedly snapped up a mapping firm called C3 Technologies, which creates incredibly detailed maps using three dimensional photography.

If the rumour turns out to be true, C3′s photo-realistic 3D model maps could make an appearance in an Apple-made iOS Maps app, rather than the company continuing to rely on Google Maps. Either way, the goal behind Apple’s acquisition of the company is clear: no more Google Maps on iOS.

C3′s mapping technique uses a plane-mounted camera to capture the intimate details of a landscape, from super-sized skyscrapers to small shrubs. Turn left at the rhododendron. These incredibly accurate landscapes are then interlaced with traditional 2D maps as well as satellite images and Street-View-style photography, leaving you with a ridiculously detailed view of a route or destination before you even leave your house.

Apple also acquired a 3D mapping company called Poly9 last year, adding more fuel to the bespoke three-dimensional mapping fire.

Just as Apple acquired Siri quietly in early 2010 and then used it as the “killer” feature on the iPhone 4S in late 2011, there’s likely to be a little wait until we see the amazingly detailed, high graphics quality Maps app land – although we’d wager it’ll debut in iOS 6 at some point next year.

And, since a recent job posting already made us think that Apple is keen on maps “rethink”, we’d say the rumours of its purchase of C3 are really quite likely.
